You never know what a few positive and informative words could lead to.

As you make your way in and out of shops this time of the year there are often Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts out front selling cookies and popcorn.  I recently bought some caramel corn from a Cub Scout troop at Lowes.  Before I did I shared my business card with the adult and explained to the scout and adult who AMA is and what we do and how we are working to expand community events.  My card has the AMA website, the district 1 website and I pen in Like us on Facebook, search "AMA District 1" and tell them there are photo album examples of what we do.

Now I realize most members do not have business cards but a piece of paper will do to write down your club website, the district 1 website- www.amadistrict-i.org and suggesting a search to "AMA District 1" on Facebook as well as your contact info.  Feel free to send them my way also: dth7@comcast.net

Speaking from experience the past 2 years I have been involved in two "Scout Aviation Days" at Plum Island Airport RC Flyers.  They are wonderful ways to introduce and inspire young people while promoting aviation, modeling and the community.  Those who volunteer as instructors running buddy boxes, ground instructors, spotters, cooks for grilling (if applicable) always report a very rewarding day.   I'd highly recommend doing whatever you can to promote this type of outreach.

If you haven't seen the post yet at the District 1 FB Page or Group here is a link to our most recent event: 2017 Plum Island Airport Scout Aviation Day

If anyone has questions or wants me to come to a club with you to discuss this or anything else please let me know.  Winter is a great time to make some strategic plans for the coming season.
